A first grade class just walked by the library and very politely and quietly, but with smiles on their faces, waved at me as they walked past. Having spent the last two weeks trying my darnedest to learn names of both faculty and students, it warmed my heart to see the students be so welcoming and friendly.
That has been my experience here at Kingsley. The students and staff have been very welcoming. The students especially are so nice! They obviously liked their former librarian, but they do not hold it against me that I am new and do two things: I don't know how they did things before, and I changed a lot of things in the library. They answer my questions and adapt wonderfully well to new routines and configurations.
I am looking forward to learning together with these students. This blog will follow our successes and not-so-great times for the 2013-14 school year. If I have learned anything, it is that not-so-great times are GREAT learning opportunities.
Example. I had a dynamite lesson planned for 4th grade introduction to Animoto, a program we will use to make book trailers. The first time I taught it was not-so-great. So I went home and re-vamped it, and then next time I taught it was much more clear for the students. Today while those same students were checking out, a group of about 6 girls were excitedly talking about how they are going to make their book trailers. That is success!
This year will be full of new things for me and for the students in the library at Kingsley. Looking forward to it sooooo much!
