The Book Fair is done for another fall. To be frank, this is not the favorite part of my job as a librarian. There is a lot of disruption in the library and changing it into a bookstore and then back to a library is just a lot, period.
This year I enjoyed more of it because I asked 4th grade students to help with the work. I could have asked 50 more students that I did because there are so many that I like in the 4th grade (I haven't found a grade I don't like :) I see the 4th grade twice a week instead of once a week so I know them better). But only 2-3 were needed per shift, so I couldn't do that.
They were great! They added enthusiasm and excitement to the Book Fair. They wanted to be there, and were so willing to help that I didn't have enough for them to do. They straightened the displays, ran errands, helped customers find books because they knew where they were, and generally kept the atmosphere lively.
The Reading Coach, Mrs. Ritter, also was a TREMENDOUS help. She helped me figure out where to put everything, gave me a break when I needed one, and helped tear it down.
I couldn't have done it without Mrs. Ritter and the 4th graders. Thanks
